Welcome to the second month of my everyday lake pictures of Pell Lake, Wisconsin. If you missed last month's pictures you can
see them here. Last month, when I did this project, I used my
cell phone. This month, I pulled out my
Nikon D7200 and used my
NIKKOR 70-300 mm lens. It allowed me to capture a lot of the activities that were happening out on the lake, including ice fishing, sunsets, ATV's and geese. Lots and lots of geese. It was a beautiful month with more sunny days than overcast ones. Follow along as I show you my favorite pictures from each day this month. Leave a comment and let me know which one is your favorite.
February 1, 2020 - A man and his little friend out
ice fishing on the lake today. There were about 5 groups of
fishermen out there while my son and I were there. It made my son want to learn how to
ice fish.
February 2, 2020 -
Groundhog Day! I guess he didn't see his shadow and so that means an early spring. You would have thought that early spring was starting today. Sunny and 42 degrees out. I wanted to capture a puddle because things are melting today. Got a little one in here. I spent most of the afternoon outside, enjoying this beautiful winter day. So thankful for the sun.
February 3, 2020 - I really liked the silhouette effect caused by the sun shining so brightly on the lake and the little patch of open water from the
aerator. Loving all this sunshine and warmer weather.
February 4, 2020 - I love
Spoondogger's bus, even though it doesn't look like it belongs in
Wisconsin, so I decided to put it in my lake picture for the day.
February 5, 2020 - A few
geese have returned to our lake today and are enjoying the small patch of open water. I loved getting their reflections.
February 6, 2020 - I waited patiently for this. I just knew it would be spectacular. They say no two sunsets are alike. I feel like I am watching God paint a masterpiece right before my eyes every time I watch one.
February 7, 2020- Tomorrow is Pell Lake's
ice fishing tournament. There are a few people out on the lake today trying to find the hot spots.
February 8, 2020 - Pell Lake's
ice fishing tournament is happening today. I took a bunch of pictures and had a hard time narrowing it down to my pic of the day. I chose this one because I felt it captured a little of everything.
February 9, 2020 - What I love most about taking pictures of the lake every day is that some of my family members have caught on. My little boys are always asking, "When are we going to the lake?" Today, they attempted to play
hockey in the blizzard.
Hockey didn't work so well, so they ended up having a
snowball fight and then they went on a
scavenger hunt to find all the frozen over, ice fishing holes from yesterday's tournament.
February 10, 2020 - A beautiful, sunshine-filled, winter day. It was a busy, full day for me, but I managed to spend a little bit of time at the lake today.
February 11, 2020 - Tonight's sunset was simple, pretty and peaceful. I liked the way it reflected in the water that wasn't frozen due to the
aerator.

Follow the Leader! This is where my thoughts have been today. What makes someone a leader and others followers? Then I go to the lake and low and behold, a
goose leading other
geese. There were about ten in all, although I only focused on three. The leader was getting ready to lead the others across the road. What struck me was how the lead
goose had its head held high while all the
geese following had their heads in a lower position. As traffic continued to drive past, it was the leader's responsibility to hold its head high, assess the risk factor, and finally to put one webbed foot in front of the other, sticking its neck out as far as it could,
taking initiative, not relying on anything other than the belief that it could get across the road. All of the other
geese, relying on the leader's decision, followed behind in a straight line with their necks lower and more fearful looking. Another car approaches and the leader continues to confidently continue crossing the road, while the others tuck their necks even more while they continue to follow their leader into danger. The leader trusts that the cars will indeed stop for this mass goose crossing. Sometimes though, the cars don't stop. I've seen the results of that. Then who is to blame? The leader who makes it across safely, leaving the followers to face danger, or the followers who followed a leader that made a decision that was good for himself, but maybe not good for all the ten geese that followed behind? Interesting things to think about. Which would you rather be, a leader or a follower?
February 13, 2020 - It was five degrees and bitter cold. I drove to the lake, jumped out and took a picture of this ice fishing shanty along the shoreline and was quick to get back in the car. Brrrr....
February 14, 2020 - My Mother-in-Law sent us a pretty card for
Valentine's Day, so I cut the little heart out and took it to the lake with me for a special
Valentine's Day photo.
February 15, 2020 - My son's
basketball tournament was today and I barely made it home in time to get a picture of the lake. However, the light lingered just long enough for me to get the tail end of the beauty. I loved how that last bit of light created a purple hue across the lake.
February 16, 2020 - Cuteness factor! I had a couple of pictures I liked from the lake today, but this one won out because of the adorable nature of it. This grandfather and granddaughter were doing donuts on the lake in their
four-wheeler ATV and these two
dogs kept running circles around them. It looked so fun! Sort of wished I was able to join in the fun.
February 17, 2020 - Remnants from the weekend at the lake. Also, a reminder to help
keep our lake clean by remembering to throw away and/or
recycle your trash.
February 18, 2020 - Loved the way the
snowmobile tracks looked on the lake today. The patterns were pretty cool.
February 19, 2020 - It was such a beautiful, sunny day. The
geese were sunbathing in the open part of the lake and created lovely silhouettes.
February 20, 2020 - "If we have as much sense as geese we will
stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong." - Dr. Robert McNeish
February 21, 2020 - "
Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without
change, no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they're meant to be." -
B.K.S. Iyengar
February 22, 2020 - They say you
learn something new every day. I learned that I enjoy watching geese
ice skate. They actually do slide on the ice. It took me a while to get a synchronized photo, but I did. Also, as I was zooming in on the photo, I noticed the last goose has a
band on its leg. In researching, I found that for
hunters, killing a
banded goose or duck is like getting a trophy. They collect these bands and report them so scientists can track
migration patterns. In doing so, they play a big part in
waterfowl conservation. Interesting stuff!
February 23, 2020 - Quite a few people are out enjoying this nice weather, and even though the lake is slushy and melting, it doesn't seem to be stopping the
ice fishermen. There were a few clusters of them out there. This guy was using his
ATV to get his
supplies out on the lake. I was happy to stay off the ice today.
February 24, 2020 - It is 40 degrees out with very little wind. I spent a good amount of time just sitting at a
picnic table observing the geese. They put on quite the show for me. The sounds of nature bring balance to my chaos. This was my most liked picture of the month over on
Instagram.
February 25, 2020 - My son wanted to come along to the lake and
take some pictures of his own. I love how he wants to do what I do.
February 26, 2020 -
Two by Two! "Friendship isn't about how long you know someone. It's about who walks into your life, says I'm here for you and then proves it." -
Nicholas Sparks
February 27, 2020 - A trail of
goose footprints captured my attention at the lake today.
February 28, 2020 - You can't watch the sunset and not have an extreme amount of awe and thankfulness. If more people would watch the sunset, I believe the world would be a better place.
February 29, 2020 -
Happy Leap Day! I found a couple of willing leapers to celebrate this momentous occasion. This was the second-place favorite picture over on
Instagram.

Until next time, always choose the scenic life!
