Too many students progress through the grades never fully understanding how punctuation works. It is never too early to introduce the different forms of punctuation to your students. This unit is designed to not only introduce but hopefully help your students fall in love with these fun characters.

  • Ella Exclamation Point




  • Carrie Comma


  • Apollos Apostrophe


  • Sammy Semicolon


  • Colin Colon


  • Hayden Hyphen

Students then practice with beginner reader worksheets designed to help them succeed in using punctuation correctly.




All throughout the course, students will use any book they are currently reading to search for the current punctuation marks they are learning about. A fun Scavenger Hunt page is provided.

While it takes many years to learn to use the different forms of punctuation correctly, this introductory course starts your early readers off on the right foot. The clever names will stick with them, making them more like friends than marks that they don't understand. Consistent review and practice along with Bulletin Board decorations are provided.




All worksheets come in color and black and white versions. Answer Keys are included along with a day-by-day Teacher's Guide that covers 10 weeks of short lessons.

Welcome to the second month of my everyday lake pictures of Pell Lake, Wisconsin.  If you missed last month's pictures you can  see them here.
