Christmas is the time to express our love for others by giving gifts.  I prefer and love gifts that are more experience related than materialistic.  A year from now, people will remember the experiences you gave them far more than the random material items.  However, when you can find a material item that helps promote or encourage the recipient to further enjoy the experiences, then you've got me.  So, I put together a list of suggestions that ultimately will keep on giving your recipient joy in one way or another, throughout the year.

#1.  Wisconsin State Park Treklist Adventures Photo Journal

Do you have a Wisconsin State Park enthusiast in your life?  Know anyone whose goal is to visit all of Wisconsin's state parks?  This will be the perfect gift to motivate them to do so.  Space is given to put pictures in and for them to journal about all of the state parks in Wisconsin.  It's a gift that will certainly keep on giving joy and inspiration to the recipient.  It pairs nicely with a Wisconsin State Park Sticker, so that they can get into all of the parks for free, and Wisconsin State Parks: Extraordinary Stories of Geology and History by Scott Spoolman.

Due to decreased milk consumption, Wisconsin dairy farmers need our help to stay afloat and we've all been advised to purchase Wisconsin cheese to help them.  This gift basket boasts ten pounds of delicious goodness to keep your Wisconsin loving friend or family member well fed.  You simply can't go wrong with food.  Everyone needs to eat.  This basket is filled with deluxe meats and cheeses, all from Wisconsin.  Want to send someone a taste of Wisconsin or do you just have a desire to help Wisconsin farmers keep going this year?  This would be the perfect choice, no matter what your reasoning is.

Tour the lighthouses of Wisconsin with beautiful photographs and information, detailed map directions, documents, and artifacts.  To add a bit of creative fun, pair this gift with a Gingerbread Lighthouse Decorating Kit, and a Wisconsin Lighthouse Travel Mug to take along on their lighthouse journeys.

#4.  Wisconsin Barn Quilts Coloring Book One by John H. Lettau

Do you know anyone who is a quilt barn lover or a quilter in need of ideas?  John Lettau has three coloring books of all the quilt barns in Shawano County in Wisconsin.  Shawano County has more quilt barns than any other county and is known as the Barn Quilt Capital of Wisconsin.  Pair this with Wisconsin Barn Quilts Coloring Book Two and Wisconsin Barn Quilts Coloring Book Three and then encourage the recipient to go on a scavenger hunt trip to Shawano County to find all of them and color as you go.  What a fun trip idea!  Add some colored pencils to round out this gift.

#5.  Unsweetened Dried Cranberries Grown Right Here in Wisconsin

Did you know that cranberries are Wisconsin's official state fruit?  Did you also know that it is very hard to find unsweetened dried cranberries?  Do you know anyone who is on a Ketogenic or low carb type of diet?  Well, if so, this would make a wonderful gift for them.  These cranberries are unsweetened with no added sugars, juices, or oils and they were grown right here in the state of Wisconsin.  Pair this with Cranberry Cooking for all Seasons by Nancy Cappelloni to give great ideas for cooking with Wisconsin's state fruit all year long.  Consider adding a Cranberry Chutney Scented Candle to make their home smell festive over the holidays.  Maybe include a promise of a road trip along the
Wisconsin Cranberry Bog Trail in the fall.

#6.  Paddling Southern Wisconsin: 83 Great Trips By Canoe and Kayak by Mike Svob

Pair this with Paddling Northern Wisconsin: 85 Great Trips by Canoe and Kayak and get some of the best tips and tricks for paddling some of the best rivers in Wisconsin.  If you're really feeling generous, maybe you could throw in an Inflatable Kayak Set with Oars so they can enjoy the books right away this spring.  My husband has enjoyed some long treks here in southeastern Wisconsin.

#7.  Cafe Wisconsin Cookbook by Joanne Raetz Stuttgen

These recipes were compiled by the author to show a taste of the different culinary styles from local cafes in Wisconsin.  The author went to the best small town cafes in Wisconsin, talked with the owners and customers, and this book is a result of that.  This book will get your recipient excited about trying some new cafes or diners while they are on their journeys through Wisconsin.   Pair this book with a Cafe Christmas Village Barn for a more festive touch.

#8.  Waterfalling in Wisconsin: The Complete Guide to Waterfalls in the Badger State by David Hedquist

Wisconsin has more than 100 waterfalls and this wonderful book will help you find every one of them.  This book describes them and then sorts them into fun and manageable day trips.  It's a wonderful guide for a waterfall enthusiast.  A fun gift to pair with this book, that will help the recipient enjoy the sounds of a waterfall all year long, would be a Cascading Waterfall Tabletop Fountain.

#9.  Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide by Stan Tekiela

This wonderful guide will help anyone to identify over 111 varieties of birds that they will encounter in Wisconsin while traveling, hiking, biking, boating, or just enjoying them in their very own backyard.  Combine this book with a good pair of binoculars to help your recipient see these wonders of nature close up.  Or consider pairing it with a backyard birdfeeder to help bring these small creatures right to their backyard for year-long enjoyment.  You could even include some birdseed.

10.  History Just Ahead: Guide to Wisconsin's Historical  Markers by Sarah Davis McBride

I can't possibly be the only person that pulls over every time I see a new historical marker.  I love learning new things about our state.  This guide has 400 Wisconsin historical marker texts, organized by regions and counties with maps.  If you're traveling with someone who doesn't want to pull over to read the sign, with this guide book in hand, you can quickly look it up and still read about the area you are in.  Or is it your goal to photograph for yourself all of the historical markers?  This book will help you find them.

Well, there you have it.  My best suggestions for gifts that will keep on giving in one way or another throughout the year.  For those of you who take the time to purchase a recommended item or just do your regular shopping using one of my links, I want to say thank you.  I couldn't keep this travel blog going without your help.  As always, I love hearing from my customers.  Do you have a perfect gift idea that inspires your recipient to travel?  I would love to hear about it.  If you would like ideas for your kids, visit my Top Ten Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids in Wisconsin.
